President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of condolence to the President of Indonesia, His Excellency Joko Widodo, following the earthquake that hit Bali and Lombok, Indonesia resulting in the devastating loss of lives, wounding many and causing widespread destruction to homes and infrastructure.
The President’s message reads as follows:
“It was with profound sadness that I learned of the powerful earthquake that hit Lombok and Bali, resulting in the devastating loss of lives, wounding many and causing widespread destruction to homes and infrastructure.
On behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences and sympathies to Your Excellency, and through you, to the Government and the brotherly people of Indonesia. Please convey my especial commiseration to the members of the bereaved families and those directly affected by this tragedy.
At this time of national mourning and sorrow, I wish to affirm that the Government and the people of the Maldives stand in firm solidarity with Indonesia. May your recovery efforts be swift and successful”.
